I've decided to start selling my Fondant Toppers by themselves in my Etsy Shop. I love baking and decorating cupcakes for parties but I want to be able to help those people that don't live near me to have a GREAT party. How easy is that??

I had a custom order this weekend. It was for one of my friends. Her birthday is today (Happy Birthday Jaime!!). Her sister lives out of state but wanted to do something special. So she emailed me and we set it all up. She paid me through my paypal account and then I had my wonderful husband deliver the cupcakes for me.

Twilight Cake

This cake was made for a Twilight themed birthday party for a little girl turning 10. She wanted a marble cake with fresh strawberries in the middle and cool whip frosting. I didn't want to use cool whip on the cake so I found a product that would be similar but a little bit easier to work with and not as melty as cool whip gets. I was really nervous about this cake because I have never worked with that type of frosting before. The consistency was stressing me out!! Anyways.. here is the final product.

I didn't get a very good angle on the red sash portion but just so you know... it wraps around the back of the cake a bit.

About 6 weeks ago, my cousin asked me to make the cupcakes for her daughters first birthday party. Of course I would make them!!! Well... I didn't realize that her party was scheduled for when we would be out of town for the holiday!!! I felt so bad. So I offered to come to her house and do a practice round with her. I taught her how to pipe the frosting on the cupcakes and let her borrow my cake supplies. I made the fondant pieces right before I left and dropped them off to her house. A few days later she did all the baking and frosting and then put all the fondant pieces on.

Here is how they turned out all put together. So cute!!

Here is the giant cupcake that she let her daughter dig into. So super fun!! I love it. I think they turned out so cute. We really made a great team.

I whipped up some Mummy cupcakes last week.

Aren't they funny??

These were super easy to make. The mummy is just made from butter cream piped on with a flat tip and the eyes were made from green fondant and a red edible paint pen.

If you're wanting to make these for a halloween party and you don't have access to fondant and don't want to spend the time to whip up a batch, I suggest using M&M's. I think those would do the trick and they taste good too!!! I think the yellow, green and red ones would be perfect!! I'm sure you could find a use for those remaining colors.... YUM!

Birthday Bash

This weekend was a big birthday bash! My husband turned 35, my sister turned 24 and both me and my cousin turned 30. So my whole family got together to celebrate and have dinner. I was in charge of the cupcakes. I didn't go all out because I was super super busy this week. But, I had to do something besides just plain old cupcakes. (how boring!) So....I took about an hour and whipped up these toppers. Each representing each of the birthday boys/girls.

My cousin is in the Army so I though some camouflage cupcake toppers were in store....

My sister is a huge Angels baseball fan so some jersey's with the number "24" were perfect!

My husband is a musician and the guitar is one of his favorite instruments.

And just some plain old simple flowers for me. Like I said, I was in a hurry. It's much easier to come up with fun, creative things for other people than it is to come up with stuff for myself.

Hawaiian Wedding

I made over 300 cupcakes and 180 gum paste plumeria flowers for a Hawaiian themed wedding reception. The cupcakes were made in three different flavors. Red Velvet with Cream Cheese frosting, Vanilla with Marshmallow Butter cream and Chocolate with Chocolate Fudge frosting.

The plumeria flowers and leaves were all hand made and took many hours to make. This was my first wedding so I was very nervous. The bride and groom loved everything and said that it was "just as they had pictured" it. It made me feel so good to hear those words.

A friend made the big cupcake on top for the bride and groom. I made extra gum paste flowers to place on this cake as well.

I'm doing a Hawaiian themed wedding in a few weeks so I wanted to do some "practice" plumeria flower cupcakes. Instead of a wedding cake, they are doing a cupcake tower. I'm so excited!!

Cupcake Party!

I have been wanting to try out some new frosting recipes so I thought.... What a good excuse for a girls night!! I had 7 of my friends over last night for a fun evening. We sampled 6 different flavors of frosting, on mini cupcakes.

Here they are.....

Fudgetastic really tasted like fudge. Not just chocolate but actual fudge. It was my favorite. I just love fudge.

Peanut Butter

This had four different types of berry in it. Strawberry, Blueberry, Raspberry and Blackberry. I used all fresh ingredients as opposed to using extracts.

Cream Cheese

Sorry for the blue frosting. Kind of freaky huh? I didn't want the marshmallow and the cream cheese getting confused with one another so I decided to dye the cream cheese blue. I thought it was funny. Everyone else was a little bit scared. It's just food coloring.... it won't kill you!!

Banana

Again, I used fresh ingredients. No extracts.

After the cupcakes were all finished, we played a board game and chit chatted. The night ended at almost 1:00 am!! I'm getting too old to be staying up that late! We had a great time.

It was nice to get every one's perspective. It seemed like the results were sort of all over the board depending on what their flavor preferences were. For instance, one person would say that the banana needed some work, while another person would say that banana was their favorite and they loved it. So maybe I need to do some more "market research".

My Papa's 90th Birthday!

Today was my Papa's 90th birthday. I was in charge of all the food. Lemon cake is his absolute favorite so I made a lemon cake and cupcakes for him.

His favorite colors are blue and yellow.

I kind of did a "story of my life" theme with his cupcakes and so they aren't going to make much sense to you.

I'll just have to explain....

Papa used to hop trains that would take him to different cities where he would try and find work. If you have ever seen the movie "Of Mice and Men" it was kind of like that. Just traveling around looking for work. Hopping onto moving trains hitching rides with all sorts of different people.

When Papa was a young man, he was an AWESOME baseball player. The St. Louis Cardinals wanted him to come to their tryouts one year. They scouted him. But back then, they didn't pass out million dollar contracts. Instead, you had to pay your own way to try outs and he was just a farmer, he could not afford the train ticket and never made it to the try outs. His buddy did and he made the team. Papa was just as good as this friend and he made it in the baseball hall of fame. Papa always wondered what his life would have been like had he been able to get that train ticket. It would have meant a whole other life for him meaning a whole other wife and kids as well (he has been married to my Nana for over 63 years!) so I think he is pretty dang happy he never got the money for that ticket. (So am I!!!)

After his retirement, he took quite a few cruises with my Nana. They loved to travel.

My Papa was a cotton farmer for awhile. So this cotton ball was a perfect addition.

He was born in Oklahoma and moved out with his family to California as a young man.

He played football and loved to watch it with my dad.

He played golf for many years. Until he wasn't able to get around as easily an he had to give it up.

Unfortunately, I did not get a good picture of the Army Helmet that I made. It turned out really cute and you can kind of see it up above in the picture with all the cupcakes. It was too blurry to post. My Papa was in World War II.

Today was an awesome day. I was so happy to be able to provide the cake and food for my family.

Ahhh... the sweet smell on success. It smelled like lemon cake.

Sweet Sixteen

Kaitlin from church was turning 16 and so her mom hired me to make the cake. Unfortunately, I had no idea it was supposed to be a surprise and so when I ran into Kaitlin one day, I told her how excited I was to be able to make a fun cake for her. Oops!! Anyways, it worked out, her mom wasn't upset and everything was cool. Whew.....

I decided that it would be fun to make a cake and cupcakes. So here they are....

The cake almost ended in disaster when I went to slide it on the counter and it fell!!!! I seriously came close to a heart attack but luckily I have quick reflexes and lots of luck and I caught it perfectly in my hands and there was NO damage!! It could not have landed more perfectly in my hands. It was a miracle!!! I set the cake on the counter, went and sat down and calmed my nerves. Once my heart rate got back down to it's normal beat and the sick feeling in my stomach subsided, I started assembling everything. I was very careful to pay close attention to every single move I made from there on out.

Kaitlin's favorite colors are pink and purple.

She had an awesome time visiting New York earlier this year and I wanted to incorporate that into her cake.

She's such a sweetie and loves the Book of Mormon. I made this out of fondant. Is is sacrilegious to eat the BOM?? I don't know, but it sure looked cute!

She's looking forward to driving so a car on the open road was the perfect addition! The only thing this is missing is a big yellow "Caution" sign! LOL!!

I was invited to a Game Night with group of my friends last night. We had a blast!! We were each to bring a treat to share so (of course) I brought.... CUPCAKES!! At first I was just going to make some yummy ones, throw some sprinkles on and go. But then I started thinking of ways to make them fun and "Game Night" themed and I just couldn't help myself. I asked my wonderful husband if he could keep the kids away from me for an hour and I cranked these out. They turned out so good for spending such a short period of time on them.

Tonight we had a girls night for church. It was a lot of fun!

These are white cake cupcakes with chocolate buttercream frosting. I have to say... the frosting was my favorite part!! Sooooo gooooood!!!!

Aren't they so cute?? The flower toppers are completely edible and made of fondant. Lately, I have been making cupcakes for other people so to get to enjoy my work was really nice (and delicious)

A friend called last week and asked if I could make a cake for her son's 2nd birthday but there was one little problem.... I was going out of town.

I offered to make cupcake toppers before I left instead of a cake and said all she had to do was to make the cupcakes, frost them, and stick the toppers on them before the party! So that's what we did. We made a great team!

In a few weeks, I am going to be making some Pirate cupcake toppers for my Best Bud's sons 5th birthday. I wanted to play around and get some ideas of how I want to make these things. So I decided to play around. Here's what I came up with:

"Arrrgh Matey, where be the treasure?"

I'll be making these for sure. I love them. So fun and cute! I drew the treasure map with edible food pens.

My next attempt will have to be better for when I actually make these for the party. I didn't like the way the mouth turned out. I mean this is skull and crossbones. The dude is dead! He shouldn't look so happy......

Rubber Ducky

A good friend of mine is having a baby girl. We threw her an awesome baby shower. It was Rubber Ducky themed.

This was a 7 inch round white cake topped with buttercream and fondant.

I wish I could say that I sculpted the Rubber Ducky by hand out of modeling chocolate but I can't. iI's just an actual Rubber Ducky purchased from Target. I'm not that talented (yet)

3rd Birthday Party

My second time working with fondant, I made two cakes for my daughters 3rd birthday party. At this time, I was still using powdered sugar on my work surface. This can be super messy and make powdered sugar stick onto the fondant. I have since learned to work with a very small amount of shortening. It works so much better and you don't get the yucky powdered sugar mess. It also helps the fondant to stay moist and not crack as well.

For the "3", I printed out a big number three on my computer. Then I cut it out and used it as a template for cutting the fondant. It wasn't "perfect" but it looked good enough. Again, it was only my second time working with fondant. I'm getting better as time goes on. The purple cake was purple on the inside as well. That's what my daughter wanted so that's what she got!! The pink one was pink on the inside. I just dyed the cake batter with gel food coloring. The cakes turned out great! My family was a little bit weirded out by eating bright purple cake though.

Twilight Treats

In March, I had a party for my cousin. She turned 30 the day the movie Twilight came out on DVD. So we had a nice party to celebrate!

I made chocolate pops as party favors in the shape of apples because the book cover looks like this....

I made them "sparkle" like Edward in the sun with edible luster dust. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, please read the book, or rent the movie and get out of the dark!!!

Here is the cake.

This was my very first time working with fondant. This is the cake that started it all!! I wanted to go with a red, black and white theme. Again, like the book cover. The cake was chocolate, then it was covered in white buttercream and then covered in white fondant. I poured red melted chocolate over the top. I was going for the spilled blood look since the movie is about vampires after all. LOL!

Anyways, the cake looked good, but one little thing that I didn't think of was that the chocolate would harden as it cooled so by the time the party started, it was hard as a rock and made cutting it nearly impossible. I won't be making that mistake again!! The cake tasted great but the pieces I cut were horrible looking piles of cake, fondant, chocolate and buttercream and in no way resembled a nicely sliced piece of cake.

Build-A-Bear Cupcakes & Piggies!!

Well, I've decided to start a blog to sort of show off the treats I make.

(okay, so sort of might be the wrong choice of words. I'll be honest...I'm shamelessly showing off!!)

Cakes have been a hobby of mine for a little while and I've started getting a little bit better as the time has gone on. A friend of mine asked if I would make her some cupcakes for her daughters birthday party. It will be held at "Build-A-Bear".

Her daughter wanted chocolate cupcakes with pink frosting. So that's what she got. With a little added bear on top! I just love how the different smiles give the bears that added personality. These were really fun to make.

While I was at it, I decided to make a treat for my sisters father. He gave my sister some money so she could take me and my kids to the fair today. We had THE BEST time!
